Every Bar, Every Temple

I’m actually pretty disappointed  in just how long it has been since my last blog post, 129 days to be exact, but in all honesty during that break I’ve had the time of my life. I’ve experienced my highest highs and lowest lows; the rush of adrenaline at the new adventure that every day brings and also settled in to something much better at home.

For those that don’t know me personally I’m the sort of person that isn’t driven by extrinsic motivators, for me I have to enjoy my job, after all that’s where I’m going to spend most of my life, so if I don’t like it, why do it? Back in November of 2015 I got sick of what I did, sick of where I lived and sick of all the rubbish that went along with it and set out to make a change. I applied for new jobs in the engineering science sectors looking for a position where I could make make my small impact on improving the world just a little bit, even if indirectly and in February of this year I was offered what I’m considering, for now anyway, my dream job starting September 2016 (now a month ago as of writing this).

In June I packed it all up (much to the annoyance of my parents who have to store my belongings), quit my job and headed out with one of my best friends (and my number one travel friend) and backpacked around South East Asia for a total of 62 nights, covering 5 countries, hitting over 25 towns and cities and spending  worrying amounts of time sleeping on buses as we looped our way round.

I’m not going to go in to any details of that trip in this post, that’ll come later but I will say I had an amazing time, learned a lot about the different cultures out there as well as a bit about myself and it felt like a good way to reset my system before starting a new job. Unfortunately I was too busy while I was out there and had limited access to internet so was not able to blog as I went along and coming back I ended up fairly ill for a couple of weeks as a result of the trip (having a delightful 4 hour wait in A&E) and then spent the following 5 weeks couchsurfing so I could commute to my new job in Oxfordshire. But, I am done now. I’ve moved in to my new flat and now I can finally get back to work on all these posts I’ve been wanting to write about the trip dubbed “Every Bar, Every Temple”, my adventure packed backpacking experience of Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand. Stay tuned…
